{"id":2341,"date":"2019-04-13T16:43:05","date_gmt":"2019-04-13T16:43:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nevilleronan.com\/blog\/?p=2341"},"modified":"2019-07-21T16:44:50","modified_gmt":"2019-07-21T16:44:50","slug":"yield-to-nature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/nevilleronan.com\/blog\/2019\/04\/13\/yield-to-nature\/","title":{"rendered":"Yield to nature &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u00a6 is what the sign said on the trail this morning and there\nwas never any doubt in my mind that I would contest right of way with this guy\n(first two pics).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was a dull grey start to the day and one that wasn\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2t\nlikely to produce any bright and shiny pictures. But as I wandered the trail,\nso many of its natural inhabitants chose that moment to cross in front of me,\nit made the whole experience more than worthwhile. At one stage, a twelve of\nthirteen footer &nbsp;tried to come up the bank beside me but when he saw me,\nhe slid back into the water and just watched me for a while (the third pic).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All of which made me think about our role in shaping the\nenvironment that these poor creature live in. I recalled a boatman on Lake\nKissimmee last year telling me how they keep a running count on alligators in\nthe lake and when it gets to a certain number, they round up the \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cexcess\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d and\nsell&nbsp; them to skinning factories. I recoil from the thought almost as much\nas the poor gator this morning recoiled from me. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If there is ever a day of reckoning for what we are doing to\nthe world\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s creatures, I truly hope I am not around to pay that tab!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fact that there is even a sign on the trail telling us\n\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cYield to Nature\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d is a shameful reminder of how little respect many of us have\nfor it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But on a happier note, by the time I left the trail this\nmorning, my soul felt like it had been at an all-you-can-eat buffet of natural\nbeauty.
